Lockdown Your Computer & Keep Your Identity Safe
theft took a giant leap from nuisance to serious crime with the advent of the Internet. Suddenly, your personal information could be accessed from any point on the globe and protecting your identity meant you’d have to do more than simply keep an eye on your wallet or purse.
Your computer, left without protection, is similar to a shoe box full of your most vital and personal information left sitting out on the curb. Anybody could come by at any time and sift through your darkest secrets. Wrote a love letter to your best friend’s girlfriend? Store your passwords in a Word document? Management your checking account with Excel? All of this information is freely available to anyone with an internet connection and, a little know-how, and mean streak.
Not only this, but hackers have a multitude of weapons at their disposal: Trojans, keylogger Trojans, Boot Sector viruses, Remote Access Trojans (RATs). These are just a few off the top of my head. It really is scary what can be done to your computer remotely.
If you’re like me, you want your computer locked down tighter than a maximum security prison. There is software out there that does this. Are you using it? Sure, a free trial subscription came with your computer, but did you renew it when your subscription ran out? As I’ve said in other articles, this is not an area to cut corners. You want the best protection for yourself and your family. Right?
There are a few services out there that are worth your time. I’ve used most of them as I tend to flit around until I find exactly what I want. Over McAfee and Norton Antivirus, I recommend Kaspersky Labs Anti-Virus 6. You may not have heard of them, but CNET.com ranked them as the top anti-virus performer of 2007. They went on to say, “Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6 is the best antivirus application we've seen this year.” I’ve been using Kaspersky for a year or two and I agree with them.
Kaspersky offers an entire suite of security software to keep your identity protected and your computer safe from viruses and hacker attacks. Kaspersky scans for spyware and viruses at the same time, saving you time in the process. Kaspersky scans your e-mail and Web-based port 80 traffic, sniffing out online viruses, Trojans, and other malware before any of this crap gets to your computer.
My favorite part is that the software updates its virus protection several times a day! What use is your antivirus protection if it isn’t on the bleeding edge of protection? With other software you might receive an update for a virus a day after the virus has infected your computer. The damage has already been done by then.
If you are in the market for new PC security software, you really should take a look at this. I wouldn’t recommend it if I didn’t use it myself. I have managed a couple different discounts for readers of this site:
